TIMBER AND STONE CHALET IN SAINT-NICOLAS-LA-CHAPELLE (73)

TIMBER AND STONE CHALET IN SAINT-NICOLAS-LA-CHAPELLE (73)

Set in the heart of the Val d'Arly at Saint-Nicolas-la-Chapelle in Savoie, this 128 sq m custom chalet with an integrated garage exemplifies Vision Bois' craftsmanship in authentic, sustainable alpine residences.

Designed by architect Vessela Georges (Cabinet Tangentes), the home draws inspiration from traditional Savoyard vernacular architecture while meeting modern comfort and low-carbon thermal standards.

Noble regional materials and structural glulam timber

Built over two storeys, the project showcases local resources and premium engineering:

  • Engineered glulam structure: Vision Bois' structural signature — posts, beams, and framework crafted exclusively in glued-laminated timber (glulam) to guarantee dimensional stability and prevent twisting or splitting in mountain conditions.
  • Maurienne Larch cladding: High-density Savoyard timber prized for its natural weather resistance and warm honey hue that weathers into an elegant silvery patina.
  • Natural local stone facing: The lower ground level combines glulam posts with authentic local masonry stone facing for a mineral anchor in the hillside.
  • Corner timber deck: The ground-floor living space opens directly onto a wrap-around wooden deck designed to capture sunlight throughout the day.

Conception technique de haute montagne.

Located in a high-mountain alpine zone, the chalet was engineered for heavy snowfall and winter conditions:

  • Mountain-grade steel sheet roofing (bac acier): Heavy-duty roof covering paired with a custom snow-deflector chimney cap engineered against snowdrift buildup and backdraft.
  • Pierret triple-glazed joinery: High-performance windows ensuring optimal airtightness and insulation during severe alpine freezes.
  • Single-builder CCMI guarantees: Delivered with zero anonymous subcontracting by the Tout Habitat cooperative under the protective legal framework of the French CCMI contract with structural damage insurance.
